about
The first lady of drill is back! Having broken through in 2019 as part of drill duo Abigail & Ivorian Doll (singles Spare Me and The Situation have been viewed a 1m+ times, with The Situation trending nationally at #4 on Youtube), Abigail has branched out on her own, rebranded as Abigail Asante to reference her Ghanaian heritage, and recorded a run of stone cold drill bangers ready to take over the streets.
Debut track Stupid gets her off to a flying start. Over a haunting drill beat from teenage drill wonderkid Chris Rich (Aitch, Dig Dat), Abigail spits lyrics that are fierce as they are fun, with barbs at wastemen and haters, self-deprecating references to her own well-known beefs (“now I’m shoeless” she cracks), and word play that could shut down the hardest rap battle. It’s clear from the first line - she’s not trying to be the hardest female rapper in the game; she’s set on being the hardest rapper full stop.
“I wanted people to engage with my tone of voice,” Abigail says, “because you can hear the passion in it when I tell my story. I wanted to have a comeback whilst including some of the things that I went through on social media so people aren’t left with a cliffhanger- the last time me and my former music partner had any contact, I didn’t explain what happened, or how I was treated whilst in a duo.
“I also wanted it to have a bad b vibe to boost confidence or those who aren’t confident... “If you want a bad girl we can do this” just explains my personality. I’m always ready for anyone that comes at me..!”
